Book Reviews

I finished reading Kevin’s book yesterday and feel strongly that if he was able to remain positive and optimistic after living the life he lived through in his childhood, he is one to be truly admired. His book asks you to look at yourself and find ways that you can improve your life on a daily basis. It was truly a worthwhile read—quite a motivational speaker.

Kevin, I read your book this week, and want to thank you for this gift, and wish you the best with your career, the book, itself and, of course, all good things to you and your family. I was especially touched by the themes of the gift of your dear sister, Regina, and the lessons on forgiveness and self-forgiveness. I have always found forgiveness and self-forgiveness to be such powerful themes, and I have trouble with the latter and letting things go. I do plan to re-read your book in the near future and work through some of the exercises and the journey as you laid it out.

Yours is truly a unique book, and I praise you for the courage and the vision to put it out there, and hope that it will help many people along the way. Perhaps, some of your advice will also help me to unlock some of the things holding me back from my own goals.

Thanks again for a great read, and take care.

I am an admitted pessimist, and have been for most of my life. That said, I still have some room in my cynical soul for a little hope and inspiration to push through, and Mr. Touhey's book has just the sort of sincere and comfortable quality to reach me.

Touhey's book is revealing, not only about his own familial and personal history, but also about the mistakes people often make in viewing themselves and the world. His lessons and exercises are totally effective in leading people toward a definite change in perspective, and his personal definitions of certain key self-growth ideas are just as helpful. His way of describing self esteem versus self confidence influenced me greatly, and inspired me to re-evaluate how I feel about myself and my actions in certain situations.

If you are a reader looking for a different way to view the world and yourself in it, The Miracle of Optimism, with its relatable storytelling style and its effective lessons and exercises is a book you need to read.

When I purchased this book, I really did not know what to expect. What I did know was that I needed a guide to help me through my life's journey. This book has taught me so many lessons and has made me look at the challenges I face in a whole new way. It has taught me to let go of the anger I feel for my daughters rare disorder. A circumstance I had no choice but to be thrown into. I no longer dwell on the question that would melt my brian, "Why did God do this to my child"? I am now able to see the beauty in every little precious gift and feel a wonderful sense of Honor. I am so grateful to have The Miracle of Optimism. It really has given me a new Perspective and Transformed my Life...I am forever grateful, Thank you Mr. Kevin Touhey and Thank you for sharing your truly inspirational, beautiful family.

I found Kevin Touhey's book a wonderful read. It was a combination of (1) a memoir and (2) a self-help book - written in a way for all to be able to read, understand and learn from. Kevin showed tremendous courage in writing this book and the progress he's made as a person (given his childhood) should give everyone a reason to be optimistic. And the life he shared growing up showed how you never really know what a person or family is going through behind the closed doors of a home - even if you think you may know them as a friend or a relative.

I recommend that you read the book twice. The first time, without doing the self-help exercises at the end of each chapter, so you can read through and fully appreciate the experiences that Kevin has had throughout his life. And the second time, by doing the self-help exercises at the end of each chapter. The book is interesting enough - and not so long - that reading it twice can be done in a reasonable amount of time. Also, this will prevent the temptation to go through the self-help exercises quickly in order to get on to the next chapter of the memoir. The benefits of the self-help exercises are maximized by taking the time to go through them in a quality way (and not be rushed).

This book has unblocked so many obstacles that created negative thoughts, depression and fear in my life. It has taught me how to appreciate and internalize how all of life's experiences(good and bad)have special meaning if we allow ourselves to embrace the positive energy that exists in what we perceive to be totally negative experiences. The wonderful thing about this book is that Kevin lays out a plan of action that is easy to follow. I can not thank Kevin enough for teaching me that my life has always been loaded with optimism, I just never knew how to find it.

I highly recommend reading Kevin Touhey's wonderful book, The Miracle of Optimism! In his book, Kevin inspires us with his big heart and the wisdom gained from healing a childhood of abuse and poverty. He outlines the principles that can activate optimism and healing during our bleak and dark times while telling his compelling personal story. This beautiful book is truly a guide for transcendence and living a life of fullness!

I have had the pleasure to work with Kevin Touhey one on one and although there is nothing like a personal experience, reading the book feels as if he is talking directly to me. I'm so glad that now everyone gets a chance to experience his stories and relive his childhood. I remember when he first told us these stories - we didn't believe him because he is such a caring and lovable person. He is a direct example that miracles happen everyday. I recommend this book to everyone who wants to seriously get a better understanding of their life and want to change it for the better.

What fabulous book with great tools for learning how to change your frame of mind to positive no matter how negative the circumstance or situation is initially perceived. Hearing Kevin's firsthand family history and reading his present view of that history and his choice to remain so positive regardless of what happened to him provides inspiration for others to be able to utilize the same tools he outlines in the book in order to live a joyful, life filled with gratitude for our blessings by focusing on the positive in any environment or situation.

have had the privilege of seeing the Miracle of Optimism at work, though I didn't know it until I read the book. My daughter was one of a group of gymnasts who worked with Mr. Touhey. As the weeks went by,a transformation occured. These girls seemed more at peace with themselves, an acceptance of who they are, what they can do and the goals that they have put into place for now and into the future. They live with the understanding that "life is perfect with a thousand interruptions" They continue to to live these lessons each day.

In the book, you read about times in Mr. Touhey's life and then you interact through the lessons. It is an amazing journey you travel as you do this. For me, each chapter touched a different part of me . As you read it, there will be something that will touch you as well.

From the moment you crack the book, you will realize that this is not a traditional textbook-style transformational guide filled with abstract ideas that are not practical nor useful. To the contrary, you very quickly realize that the author has opened up his life's story, some of which must have been very painful to share with the world, for the benefit of all of us to learn from. The beauty of sharing is that you don't have to live these experiences yourself to learn from them. In fact, as I was progressing through the book, I conjured similar feelings to stories of my own life which taught me some of these same lessons. I am a hardcore optimist at heart and have been my whole life, but one without the discipline of framework to understand my thinking and what shapes my views and makes me an optimist. Kevin does a beautiful job in raising self-awareness to help people put things in perspective - that bad circumstances are nothing more than learning experiences and gratitude for the everyday gifts that we have been given are indeed miracles after all.

As a self-proclaimed pessimist, I found Kevin Touhey's book "The Miracle of Optimism" both inspirational and enlightening. Mr. Touhey reminds us all that we all have a story to tell and that story defines us. It is our story of both overcoming hardships and re-living tribulations that help us on our journey to be a more insightful person. We all know a "Kevin Touhey" and their stories. We need to better connect with our past so as we can live a more meaningful present. I will read this book over and over again to remind me how grateful I am to be "me" and appreciate the others in my life that have helped create the "me" that I am now!
